5 Ways to get your winter skin in tip-top shape

5 Ways to get your winter skin in tip-top shape

The parties are over. Work has begun again, and you’re just getting back into the swing of things. However, you might’ve overindulged during the holidays, with sweets, late nights, and perhaps a little bit of alcohol, and now your face is looking a little out of shape.

1. Don’t use overly hot water!

I know you’re almost tempted to boil yourself because you’re so cold, but be gentle with your skin and only use lukewarm water. Not only has your face been exposed to an abundance of free radicals and the drying winter cold, but hot water breaks down the lipid barriers in the skin, which leads to a loss of moisture. Less moisture, more wrinkles.

This includes showers, so at the very least, try to keep your face away from the shower head if you scalding the rest of your body in an attempt to keep warm.

2. Drink as much as you can

Unfortunately for some, I’m not talking about booze. However, you really need to drink as much water as you can. You’re made of at least 50% water and it helps everything in your body function. You lose weight when you are hydrated, since we often think we’re hungry when we’re actually thirsty. Drinking water helps your skin build new cells properly and gets nutrients to where they’re needed most.

Surprisingly, by the time you experience the sensation of thirst, you’re already dehydrated. A good hack to hydration is to drink 2 glasses of water right after you wake up. It kickstarts your brain and then you don’t need to chug as much H20 during the day.

3. Use essential oils

They lock moisture in your skin and create a barrier of protection again the dry, cold air. They have some of the most powerful known antioxidants (according to a study developed by Tuft University) and they are capable of penetrating your cell membranes since they are fat and lipid soluble.

That means that not only do they have the magical nutrients need to heal and protect your skin, those nutrients can get where they need to be.

Essential oils in our portfolio are offered from Kueshi's brand featured in Dazzling Picks, like Regenerist Rose Hip Oil is rich in Vitamin C, which is one of the few substance proven to reverse damage in the skin. Vitality Skin Pure Argan Oil has Vitamin E and fatty acids, and soothes skin and prevents further dryness and irritation.

4. Use sunscreen

This sounds ridiculous, doesn’t it? Yet, all the same, in some ways you’re more likely to get sun damage during the winter. First, most people don’t think that the sun can “get them” since the clouds are out. Yet, clouds don’t do anything agains UV rays- the light just bounces around until it hits the earth or your face.

Even worse, the ozone layer is thinner during winter. This means that there is less ozone absorbing the sun’s radiation and more getting to you.

Don’t worry, we’ve got Sol Leon to protect you.

5. Use a hydrating serum

Some of you already do everything already listed, and you still have dull, dry skin. It’s time to break out the big guns:  a hydrating serum. They often have special ingredients specifically formulated to keep your skin from losing its moisture, which is the biggest problem we face during winter.

You apply it on damp skin and the dampness pulls the small-molecule ingredients into the top layer of skin. You can then put on and essential oil or a moisturiser to keep it locked in place.  That way, they’re healing skin, while you’re going out and doing your thing.

Serums in our portfolio: Nutrix Caviar - Serum Caviar And Resveratrol, Ultra Stem Cell Rejuvenate Serum, Vitality Skin - Micronized Pearl Serum Argan, Vita Age Aurum Stems Redensifying Serum.
